On Saturday, November 10, 2012 we had something VERY exciting happen at our house. Stacey Reese Smith III accepted Jesus in his heart and became a Christian!
I wanted to document it here so that he can look back and perhaps remember some of the little details of this special day.
Nannie, Big, Brylie and Truett were in town and I was tucking everyone in. Brylie was on a pallet on the floor in your room and you and Wyatt were in your bunk beds. As I was about to walk out you said rather seriously, "Mom, I need to tell you something." That can mean a lot of things so I climbed your ladder expecting to hear that you accidentally put your pants in the toilet or that you were worried your funny face in the silly picture wasn't funny enough...you know "serious" stuff, but much to my surprise and delight you said, "Mom, last night I asked Jesus into my heart."
OK. WOW. I had to switch gears and process that. We had talked about this a lot and answered questions and prayed with you and for you, but none of those things had happened on this particular weekend. I asked you what exactly you had prayed and what made you want to do that last night and you very confidently replied, "I asked Jesus to come into my heart and wash my sins away. I've been wanting to do it for awhile and decided to last night."
Well alrighty then!
We climbed down the ladder, got Daddy, told him the great news and then the three of us went into our room to talk some more about what it means to be a Christian and a sinner who is in need of God's grace and forgiveness, a gift he freely offers that we don't deserve, but can not live without. I stumbled through some verses and then I cried a little. It was all very serious, too serious, so I had to stop and remind you and myself that this was an INCREDIBLY AMAZING AWESOME night and a BEAUTIFUL choice and that my tears were tears of Joy because this is something that Daddy and I had prayed for since before you were born.
We prayed for you, told everyone the great news and then tucked you back in.
A few morning later I was singing, obnoxiously, Rise and Shine and Give God the Glory Glory... Children of the Lord. You said, "MOM, I AM a child of the Lord, AND...switching songs in your head I guess...I AM in the Lord's Army now!
Amen, sweet boy, you better believe it!!!

Well tears of Joy in Doha for sure! Oh how sweet our Jesus is to grab hold of a 7 year old's heart right when he's ready! I would consider that day one of the best EVER as a mama! Glory to God for what He's done in the Smith family that lead to this very moment. So so happy!!! Great post and love every detail you wrote!
